The days of waiting in Fujairah for the approach of Cyclone Gonu, across the Indian Ocean and up the coast of Oman, have been reawakened in our memories with the emergence of Hurricane Gustav in the USA.
The community of Fujairah was united in the preparation of walls and sandbags, the bracing of ourselves for the winds and flooding and the days of cleaning up the damage.
The movement of Hurricane Gustav towards Louisiana and Texas has revived our memories both of the pain and the working together throughout the month of June 2007.
A special note of concern to the people of America has been posted on the Experiencing the Emirates site as we wait and stand with them in solidarity.

Gonu, that was one of a kind.
ReplyDeleteBut, Gonu didn't bring any rain to the UAE. It only brought waves and a lot of media confusion.
And I really feel sorry for Oman. The amount of rain was really high (610mm in less than 48h).
Many thanks for the photos.
