Update: Directions + Map for New Sheikh Khalifa Highway
The question most asked around Fujairah at the moment is ‘When will the new, fast highway be open?’ This question is also also being asked by many people in Dubai and Sharjah.
Earlier it was reported that the highway would be opened in July 2011, then September 2011.
The latest official news is that the highway “is set to open early in December 2011.”
Don't hold your breath waiting for the opening day! Add this to the list of those things 'Coming Soon' to Fujairah!
This announcement was made by Sohail Iqbal, Chief Engineer for the Fujairah Municipality, in his keynote address at the France-Fujairah Forum on Thursday 29 September 2011.

Vital Stats
Mr. Iqbal mentioned these other details about the highway:
+ Length: 85kms.
+ The Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Highway will link Dubai to the Central Region of the UAE and Fujairah.
+ It will significantly reduce traveling time by at least 40% between Fujairah and Dubai.
Other reports have mentioned that it will take 45 minutes to travel from Dubai to Fujairah but this depends on your starting and finishing points and how fast you are driving.
